If you are on a diet, salads are a probably a big part of what you eat. But as we all know salad calories are not necessarily low. Some salads might have a high number of salad calories. So it is important to make sure your know how to make the most taste of your salad but keep those salad calories low.
Salad Calories in Deatils
Vegetables are usually the key part of every healthy salad and what keeps the salad calories low. You can eat many vegetables and never worry about the calories. Plus you get vitamins and other healthy nutrients. Check out the following salad calories examples for popular vegetables:
- Tomato (1 large) – 33 calories
- Cherry Tomato (1) – 3 calories
- Cucumber (1 large) – 45 calories
- Carrot (1 large) – 30 calories
- Lettuce (1 large leaf) – 2 calories
- Onion (1 tbsp chopped) – 10 calories
- Bell pepper (1 large) – 33 calories
- Celery (1 cup chopped) – 16 calories
You can have a big and colorful salad filled with all these vegetables and still keep a reasonable level of salad calories. Isn’t that great?
Salad Calories No-Nos
Salad dressing calories can be your biggest mistake. Low calories dressing could be fine, but any rich or creamy dressing is the sure way to increase your salad calories by hundreds of calories. I’m serious! If you to have little effect on your salad calories, you cal add as much lemon as you like, as much spices and herbs, and just a few drops of olive oil.
Cheese calories are also a thing to watch out from. Regular cheese has a lot of fat in it. Topping your vegetables with cheese is adding fat and more salad calories. Either choose low fat cheese, like low fat cottage chees, or skip it all together.

Chicken calories are easily added to most diets. So if you like chicken, this is your lucky day! Chicken calories are also a healthier choice than other types of meat. So both healthier and tasty, chicken calories are the way to go!
Chicken Calories – The Skin
The skin of a chicken is very high in fat and with the fat come more and more chicken calories. If you are watching your weight, it is always a good recommendation to remove the skin and lower the amount of chicken calories you consume.
You realize how significant the skin (from a chicken calories point of view) when you read the numbers: 60 chicken calories difference in 3.5oz of chicken breast and 180 chicken calories difference in 3.5oz of chicken back! So off with the skin!
