Pizza Calories

August 29, 2008

Why is it that foods that you love, like pizza, is so full of calories? Pizza calories are infamous for being both high and come from the fat of the cheese. But there are ways for reducing the amount of pizza calories you are going to eat. It has to do with the size of the pizza, the crust and the toppings.

Pizza Calories

It might not look that way, but the size (12″ vs. 14″) has a very big impact of the pizza calories. A medium slice (12″) can have 200-270 calories. Compare that with the large slice (14″) with 280-390 calories. And if you’re having more than one slice, don’t forget those pizza calories add up!

Like we said, cheese is a big resource of fat and pizza calories. Extra cheese on a large slice of pizza can add up to 60 calories (around 20% more of the original pizza calories level). Other rich in fat topping like pepperoni, sausage and bacon would add a similar amount of calories.

Among the different types of crust - going for the thin one would earn you the least amount of pizza calories. Don’t go for those thick pan pizza and especially not those which are filled with more cheese.  I don’t even one to know the number of pizza calories. It’s scary!

There is no real way around it. Pizza calories are not really the healthiest calories around. But if you still want to eat your pizza, it’s better to have it with the least amount of pizza calories you can.
