Bagel Calories
October 2, 2008
I love bagels. The taste of a fresh warm bagel is so good, I just can’t resist it. Too bad that means bagel calories as well. But let’s see how many calories are in a bagel and whether you can include it in your diet.
If you are watching you weight, it might be a good idea to skip those bagel calories. Stick with bread calories - that is a slice or too.
If you still want to have a bagel, you should check out the following bagel calories numbers. These numbers refer to a plain bagel (including onions, poppy or sesame):
- Mini bagel (0.8oz, 26gr, 2.5″ diameter) - 67 bagel calories
- Medium bagel (2.5oz, 71gr, 3.5″ diameter) - 182 bagel calories
- Large bagel (3.9oz, 4.5″ diameter) - 283 bagel calories
Now, we are talking here about the bagel calories only. If you butter it or spread cream cheese - that’s no diet. That means extra calories that you don’t really need. Try eating your bagel with a low-fat cottage cheese or just a side of salad. That would keep the bagel calories from not increasing.
You can toast your bagel if you want. There is only a slight difference of a few calories between a regular bagel calories and a toasted one. The reason is that it is only water that evaporates while the bagel is toasted.
In conclusion, bagel calories can be really tasty. But they’re not so low, are they? So either integrate them in a full balanced diet, or consider other low calorie options.

Most of the beer calories come from the alcohol. It varies from beer to beer, but it can get even to 70% out of the total sum of the beer calories. If you want a simple way to compare beer calories between 2 beers, just check out the alcohol percentage. The higher of the both has more beer calories.
Typical beers can have between 100-170 calories. But you really need to check every beer you drink. Have a look at the difference in the beer calories in these beers:
- Sam Adams Boston Lager (4.75%) - 160 beer calories
- Sam Adams Cream Stout (4.69%) - 195 beer calories
- Sam Adams IPA (5.93%) - 175 beer calories
- Sam Adams Light (4.05%) - 124 beer calories
Alcohol should be consumed moderately. If you drink a lot and everyday you might be facing other problems that just the number of beer calories. Plus a lot of people eat a lot of junk food when drinking beer, so that beer belly we hear about might be filled with more than just beer calories.
It’s important to remember the although beer calories are not different than other calories, we are still talking about alcohol. So remember to consume it moderately.
