Bagel Calories

October 2, 2008

I love bagels. The taste of a fresh warm bagel is so good, I just can’t resist it. Too bad that means bagel calories as well. But let’s see how many calories are in a bagel and whether you can include it in your diet.

If you are watching you weight, it might be a good idea to skip those bagel calories. Stick with bread calories - that is a slice or too.

If you still want to have a bagel, you should check out the following bagel calories numbers. These numbers refer to a plain bagel (including onions, poppy or sesame):

Now, we are talking here about the bagel calories only. If you butter it or spread cream cheese - that’s no diet. That means extra calories that you don’t really need. Try eating your bagel with a low-fat cottage cheese or just a side of salad. That would keep the bagel calories from not increasing.

You can toast your bagel if you want. There is only a slight difference of a few calories between a regular bagel calories and a toasted one.  The reason is that it is only water that evaporates while the bagel is toasted.

In conclusion, bagel calories can be really tasty. But they’re not so low, are they? So either integrate them in  a full balanced diet, or consider other low calorie options.
